Coffee With DeVRY in the Stewardverse: Pink Tariffs.
Join us for “Pink Tariffs: Coffee with Devry in the Stewardverse™” on Thursday, October 9, at 10 AM - 11:15 AM CDT.
Our coffee conversations in The Stewardverse™ explore the intersection between public policy, business, and stakeholders, namely nature and people.
Devry Boughner Vorwerk, our firm’s founder and CEO, invites you to share a cup of virtual coffee to exchange views on “Pink Tariffs.”
The concept of pink taxes is well established. It’s a term for gender-based price discrimination, where products and services marketed to women or girls cost more than similar products or services marketed to men or boys, even when there's no functional difference in the goods themselves.
When it comes to global trade, pink tariffs have a similar impact since tariffs are a tax, whereby: (1) differentiated tariff terms are applied to women’s products (e.g., women’s apparel vs. men’s apparel); (2) tariffs raise the price of staple items such as food, which is predominantly purchased by women in the household, and (3) tariffs could negatively impact women’s job security for those jobs tied trade in some of the poorest economies in the world.
We would like to surface whether others are concerned about the impact of the new and volatile tariff changes on women in the supply chain. Are we seeing an erosion of strides made by women in recent years in global supply chains, markets, and the workforce?
Our virtual coffee conversation is an informal, open discussion where participants can share views, exchange facts, relay data, and offer ideas and advice on finding the best ways to manage tariff policy to mitigate negative impact on women and to move women forward fairly.
The complimentary meeting will take place over Zoom, and you will receive a meeting link after you register below.
